Indian cuisine tends to be heavy on the veggies and light on the meat. This is good news for your health, since diets high in vegetables and low in animal products have been linked with lower rates of heart disease, obesity, cancer, and other chronic conditions. 1. Idli Idli is the staple breakfast. It is prepared by the fermentation of a batter of broken ground rice and urad dal with sufficient volume of water, yeast, and salt to taste by steaming the dough. The protein and vitamin content of idli increases on fermentation. It is a gluten free diet and contains carbohydrates, fats, and fiber and thus helps in weight loss. It is best combined with coconut chutney and sambar.

2. Millets 

Millets are coarse grains and a repository of protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. The list includes ragi (finger millet, jowar (sorghum), bajra (pearl millet), jaun (barley), and kodo millet. Millets are a good source of fiber, helping you improve bowel movement and control diabetes and obesity as well. Their high magnesium content helps lower blood pressure, while the potassium content keeps a check on hypertension

3.Pulses and legumes 
The likes of beans, peas, and lentils come under the pulses category. Rich in protein and fiber, they are certainly a must-have in your diet. Besides, they are also a good source of vitamins and minerals. One effective way to increase your intake of these essential nutrients is to consume at least half a cup of pulses and legumes per day
